TRAVELLING TO BERLIN
For Arrival Information, click here
The address of the congress venue is:
BBZ (Bildungs- und Begegnungszentrum der ÖTV)
Koblanckstrasse 10
14109 Berlin
Phone: ++49 (0) 30 806 713 0
Fax: ++49 (0) 30 806 713 560.
It is situated in a suburb named Wannsee (pronounced
"Vunn-Say",
named after the nearby lake ("See") of the same name), in the
South-West
of Berlin, close to the city of Potsdam. Hence for all travellers the
main
point of reference is the Railway and S-Bahn (or City
Rail)
Station"Wannsee".
From there it is 5 min. by bus or taxi - or a 15 min. walk (see below).
Important:
Public transport services in Berlin as well as the train connections
to Berlin are being re-organised and extended frequently these days. So
check this site again for updates!
(An "interactive city map" can be found at the following Web
Site: City Map Berlin.
Type in the address "Koblanckstrasse" to find the relevant section. You
can then move to adjacent areas by clicking on the compass.)
The following recommendations concern:
-
In Berlin: Getting to Wannsee
-
From the airports to Wannsee
-
From the main railway stations to Wannsee
-
Getting to Wannsee by car
I. TRAVELLING TO BERLIN
(map removed)
By
air:
-
From most European countries, there are direct flights
to
the Berlin airports of Tegel (the main airport), Tempelhof
or Schönefeld.
-
Most visitors from overseas will arrive by air at Frankfurt
airport. Then there are three alternatives.
-
By air: Flying to one of the Berlin airports of Tegel,
Tempelhof
or Schönefeld (approx. 50 min.), and from there using
public
transport to Wannsee.
-
By train: Taking the underground from Frankfurt Airport
Station
(platform 1) to Frankfurt Central Railway Station (10 min.) and
then the Inter City Express (ICE) train from Frankfurt directly to Berlin-Zoologischer
Garten (about 4 hours, 40 min; see below), and from there using
public
transport to Wannsee.
Some ICE trains now leave from Frankfurt Airport directly from a
new platform which still seems to be a construction site.
- By car: Renting a car and driving to Berlin
(approx. 500
kms).
By
train:
-
From Frankfurt Central ("Hauptbahnhof"), the high speed ICE
(Inter
City Express) trains -
- leave
every hour (taking about 4 hours, 40 min. to Berlin).
-
From Munich Central ("Hauptbahnhof"), trains leave about every
hour,
too. The trip takes between 6:45 and 7:20 hours.
-
From other directions: most trains from the West (Hannover) and
the North West (Hamburg) arrive at the main station Berlin-Zoo
(or Berlin-Zoologischer Garten). Trains leave about every hour
(Hamburg)
or twice per hour (Hannover) and the trip takes 2:40.
By
car:
Most visitors will use the Autobahn (freeway, highway,
motorway).
A
24 (from Hamburg), A 2 (from Hannover), A 5 / A 4 / A
9 (E
51) from Frankfurt, A 9 (E 51) from Nürnberg
and
Munich: all of them lead to the circular motorway around Berlin, the
A
10 "Berliner Ring". From the southern loop, the A 115
leads
into Berlin. After 18 kms on the A 115, the exit to take is No.
4: Zehlendorf.
On the map, Wannsee is close to the little black square just
to the right of Potsdam.

II. IN BERLIN: GETTING TO
WANNSEE
The public transport system in Berlin consists of
U-Bahn (Underground),
S-Bahn (Stadt-Bahn, City Railway),
Bus,
Tram.
Tickets are valid on all of these. A one-way ticket to anywhere in
Greater Berlin (areas A=city + B=suburbs, including Wannsee and the
airports)
costs DM 3,90, a day ticket DM 7,80, a 7-day ticket DM 40
(recommended!).
Taxi service is available but quite expensive, especially
from
Schönefeld Airport.
From
the
airports to Wannsee
From Tegel Airport (about 40 min):
Bus 109 to S-Bahn station Charlottenburg,
then S-Bahn S 7 (destination Potsdam) to Wannsee.
or:
Bus X 9 to railway station Zoologischer
Garten, then S-Bahn S 7 (dest. Potsdam) to Wannsee.
Take the bus that leaves first.
From Tempelhof Airport (about 50 min):
Bus 119 to Yorckstrasse /
Grossgörschenstrasse,
then S-Bahn S 1 to Wannsee.
From Schönefeld Airport (about 90 min):
S-Bahn S 45 to Westkreuz,
then S 7 to Wannsee.
or (depending on the time of the day):
S-Bahn S 9 to Baumschulenweg,
S 46 to Westkreuz (dest.
Westend),
then S 7 to Wannsee.
From
the
main railway stations to Wannsee
The main railway stations are Berlin-Zoo (or Berlin-Zoologischer
Garten - coming from the North West (Hamburg), West (Hannover) -
and
Berlin-Lichtenberg
- coming from the North (e. g. Scandinavia)
or East).
From both, the S-Bahn (S 7, dest. Potsdam) takes you
to
Wannsee.
Getting
to Wannsee by car
See map below:
Leave Autobahn (Motorway) A 115 at exit 4 "Zehlendorf",
direction Wannsee. Drive along "Potsdamer Chaussee" and
"Königstrasse",
direction Wannsee. After the bridge over the lake (the Wannsee) first
turn
right into "Am Grossen Wannsee", until you get to the corner "Koblanckstrasse".
There you are!
