Abstract
Since my last year of high school, I have found myself in a profound
and ever changing dialogue with Nietzsche. He has served as companion,
guide and opponent. I have interrogated his texts and allowed his words
to interrogate me. In keeping with Nietzsche's style, which was both per-sonal
and passionate, I will try to communicate my passion for Nietzsche as well
as his importance as a psychologist and guide, critic and prophet of the
post-modern age.
The paper will focus on Nietzsche's "The Gay Science" (also translated
"Joyful Wisdom") and his description of the process by which the basis
for Western certainly about value, truth, fact, and morality have slowly
withered away, setting the stage for a "post-modern crisis."
