The end of a dichotomy - 'Europe's Matrix of Decision' (Kelly, 1962) revisited
Peter Cummins
Abstract
At the Nebraska Symposium on Motivation later to be considered the
1st International Con-gress on Personal Construct Psychology, George Kelly
spoke about 'Europe's Matrix of Deci-sion'. In this address, he reported
from "a journey that would take (us) around the world and bring us face
to face with people in 37 countries". This paper is considered the nucleus
of so-cial psychology from a Personal Construct Psychology perspective.
In introducing its reprint in 1996, D. Kalekin-Fishman and B. Walker wrote
that it "focuses particularly on the con-structions of the social behind
what was then the iron curtain". A crucial section of the paper reports
on talks Kelly had in Berlin just before and again after "The Wall".
