Abstract
In November 1998 the Gender Studies Department of the American University
of Paris (AUP) sponsored an international conference called „Women, Culture
and Development Practices“. Close to one hundred professional and academic
woman from all over the world attended a series of lively lectures and
debates. At the end of the conference I gave a work-shop on Kelly’s grid
methods using the computer programs that we have used at AUP for 15 years.
My idea behind the workshop was to encourage conference participants to
explore their own languages of development and to compare these personal
languages with those of other participants. I was intrigued by the interest
in this workshop and the results. This paper will give the preliminary
findings from the workshop along with follow up work. I have done with
students and professors of political science and economic development at
AUP.
