Abstract
This paper challenges the recent conceptualization of ,multiple selves"
(i.e. high self-concept dif-ferentiation) as pathological by arguing for
the independent relationship between self-concept clarity and multiplicity.
Results of the research suggest the important role of self-concept clarity
in qualifying the effects of differentiation, and implications are discussed
in relation to constructivist notions of the self.
